Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone
The classic, the original: Green Hill Zone. Better known as Sonic’s original Level 1 in many circles, Green Hill Zone is a beautiful land of tranquility and grace. This is an iconic song both for the Sonic series and the Sega Genesis. The music invokes peaceful memories of buzz bombers, ladybug rollers, and…crabs? Enjoy the scenery and take the stage slowly, or kick up the gear and watch Sonic deliver a dazzling display of the coked-out speed we would come to know and love.
Sonic the Hedgehog – Marble Zone
Slow down a bit. You’ll need to in the Marble Zone, where Sonic’s fleet feet don’t mean shit. Fiery lava, crushing panels, and purple-spiky-floating dragon monsters are out to murder this little blue hedgehog. Luckily, Sonic gets to listen to smooth sounds of rhythm that invoke dreams of the Mediterranean as he makes his way through the level.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – Chemical Plant
This level may bring back painful childhood memories. In the Chemical Plant, Sonic gets zoomed from industrial chute to chute, and has to navigate his way through nuclear jelly-waste before he reaches the end of the stage. Try not to drown in it. But we all know you will. It’s cruel and unusual punishment for Sonic, but he’s up for anything Dr. Robotnik throws at him.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – Ice Cap Zone
Sonic is stretching the graphical capabilities of the Genesis in Sonic 3, where he pulls off a sensational cascade down a snow-topped mountain. Get your snowsuits ready, you’re going to need it in this icy wonderland. The frigid temperatures of the Ice Cap Zone are exacerbated by lethal falling ice and maddening sliding mazes. Polar vortex or not, Sonic will have to man up through this Siberian death zone if he wants to make it out alive.
